Other disability issues are under various campus offices: Issue Responsible Office Physical Plant accessibility Financial Administration Housing exceptions Dormitory Deans E-class accessibility Online Campus Web Site accessibility Public Relations However, because of the unique expertise of DSS staff, the office is often called upon to assist with other campus disability issues. Requests for disability-related accommodations in campus housing: DSS is the campus entity designated to receive students confidential disability information for Student Services. The Disability Services Coordinator (DSC) evaluates the documentation for currency, appropriateness, and level of support for the request. The DSC conveys the result of that evaluation to the appropriate party (e.g. Student Services subcommittee for campus housing or a dean). The evaluation is not intended to be a recommendation regarding the approval of housing accommodations, and DSS does not make decisions about campus housing accommodations. Campus accessibility issues: The DSC chairs the Disabilities Subcommittee. The subcommittee brings together personnel from various campus programs to discuss accessibility challenges that have come to the attention of its members and to make recommendations to appropriate parties. Anyone can contact a member of the subcommittee at any time with accessibility concerns or questions. Partnering with campus services: With the written permission of a student, DSC and Health Services sometimes collaborate to provide comprehensive services for students. At the request of a student, the DSC can verify disability information the student has volunteered to a campus employer, dean, or other av employee/entity. The DSC encourages students to self-identify to Campus Safety. If the student agrees, the DSC can verify the students statements and assist Campus Safety in determining emergency procedures or other issues that need to be considered with respect to students with disabilities. DSS can be consulted about specific disability issues (e.g. a student brings a service animal into the cafeteria line).
