Montoso Gardens, Puerto Rico
I am standing in front of Couroupita guianensis also known as the cannonball tree. This cauliflorus tree produces fruit the size of bowling balls on the trunk! The fruit, while edible, is not eaten as it does not smell or taste good. This photo was taken at my friend Bryan Brunner's place. Bryan has been growing tropical fruits on his farm for the last 40 years while teaching at the University of Puerto Rico. On his farm, he grows durian, mangosteen, rambutan, jackfruit, coffee, and over 10 different varieties of cacao. This photo was taken on 3/16/25.
