La Casa del Rey Moro
Despite its name, the house itself dates from the early 18th century, long after the Moorish period in Spain. The name comes from a ceramic tile painting of a Moorish king on the facade and, more importantly, from the ancient Moorish water mine that is a central part of the property.
The most historically significant element is the 14th-century Muslim-era water mine. This impressive feat of hydraulic engineering was crucial for Ronda's defense during sieges, allowing the city to draw water from the GuadalevÃn River below. Christian slaves were historically used to operate the large waterwheel (noria) and carry water up the steps.
