San Fernando Waterfall
Field Ecology hiked to San Fernando Waterfall in 2025.
The San Fernando waterfall is a stunning natural attraction located in the rainforest of Costa Rica, not far from the famous La Fortuna area. Cascading 312 feet down a rock face, it is considered one of the tallest and most pristine waterfalls in the country. You can view the falls from a distance at the Soda y Mirador Cinchona restaurant, which also offers a chance to spot local wildlife. Adventurous hikers can undertake a moderately challenging, 2 to 3-hour trek down into the canyon to experience the power of the cascade up close, with hiking boots and a change of clothes highly recommended. The hike is well worth the effort and is often more affordable than the nearby La Paz Waterfall Gardens.
